Week One: Outreach Classes

Have you ever longed for a way to reach out to your community? Learn how to find new Bible study contacts and give a short Bible study to bring courage, light, and hope to searching hearts. You’ll learn how to recognize when God is working on their hearts and how to use God’s word to help them make a decision. Bring: KJV or NKJV Bible.

Learn how to share your faith through the printed word! Discover the best way to approach people with a tract, and find out how to effectively use available materials. Learn how to follow up with an interest once you’ve made a contact, and even practice a bit of colporteuring. On Sabbath you’ll go door-to-door in the local community, putting into practice what you’ve learned.

Why is it easier to talk to an earthly friend than to God? How can I hear God’s voice? Does God answer our prayers? Sometimes your prayer life might feel a little boring or like you’re stuck in a rut. In this class, we will answer these questions and more. You will learn how to use a prayer journal, and on Sabbath we will participate in outreach in the community. Bring: a Bible, pen, and notebook.

Over the course of the week, you’ll learn several beautiful choir selections, which will be incorporated in a special musical program to be presented Sabbath afternoon at a local nursing home. Prerequisite: Ability to sing on tune.

Discover the joy of bringing the gospel to the most receptive audience: children! You’ll discover ways to reach the minds and hearts of kids at home or in the mission field. Learn how to conduct a complete children’s evangelistic series using YD’s Truth 4 Youth evangelism program. Put your new skills to work in a Sabbath afternoon program for the local children. Bring: notebook, pencil, and eraser.
Week One: Recreation Classes

In this class, you will learn basic watercolor techniques like water control, lifting, layering, and more. We will use our growing skills to paint flowers, birds, animals, and landscapes. Many projects will be perfect for turning into greeting cards. Class fee: $10

Got a sweet tooth and an artistic streak? Then this class is for you! We’ll whip up delicious plant-based cupcakes and mini cakes from scratch, then turn them into edible masterpieces using frosting, sprinkles, piping tips, and more. Whether you’re dreaming of delicate flowers or wild sprinkle explosions, you’ll learn the basics of cake decorating in a fun, hands-on way. Come ready to mix, bake, and get a little messy! Bring: An apron and a notebook. Class fee: $10

Learn how to make a tote bag! Perfect for day trips, as a book bag, or as a reusable shopping bag. Several color options/materials will be available. Bring: A pair of sharp sewing scissors, measuring tape, and sewing pins (put in checked luggage if flying). Optional: Bring an electric sewing machine. Class fee: $10.

What would you do in an emergency? Find out how you can help others who have been hurt, and what you can do to prevent injury and sickness. You’ll get hands-on experience treating simulated fractures, wounds, impaired breathing, and other emergencies. Bring: clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and for Friday, permanently stained. Girls should wear loose pants and a fingertip-length tunic.

Have you ever wondered how a differential works? Or why it is that different gear sizes mean different speeds? In this class we will learn mechanical principles with Lego Technic. By adding motors to their creations, each group will construct a remote-controlled Lego vehicle by the end of the class.

Learn to strengthen and properly condition your body for better physical performance and service! Whether you’re ready to attempt your first pushup or train for advanced exercises, this class will challenge you to take the next step. Have fun during group workouts, games, and exercise progressions, while you increase your flexibility, learn about muscle growth and recovery, and proper nutrition. You’ll create a personalized fitness program so you can continue your journey after camp is over. Come prepared to challenge your core, legs, shoulders, back, and arms, and leave stronger than you came. What to wear: Flexible clothing that allows for a full range of motion (dry-wicking recommended). Girls: fingertip-length tunic over loose pants.

No summer would be complete without a paddle and a canoe! Instruction in strokes, maneuvers, and safety will have you skimming across beautiful Lake Roosevelt in no time. What to wear: Boys: long T-shirt & knee-length shorts. Girls: fingertip-length shirt over knee-length shorts.
Week One: Lifeskills Classes

Have you ever felt helpless in the face of a medical emergency? Then this just might be the class for you! You’ll learn the basics of first aid and scene safety plus a few more advanced concepts including moving the injured, airway management and rescue breathing, bandaging techniques, triage, and caring for the burned or bleeding patient. You will also have the opportunity to practice your knowledge during hands-on simulated emergencies. Bring: clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and for Friday, permanently stained. Girls should wear loose pants and a fingertip-length tunic.

You—yes, you—can be an effective colporteur! After practicing your skills in the classroom, you will go out into the community for some real door-to-door experience! Expect to earn some money and spread blessings! Advance preparation: We will send a canvass for you to memorize before camp. Bring: Walking shoes and a sturdy bag for carrying books. Disclaimer: Students in this class will miss quiet time and special activity most days and will skip their Recreation class on Friday.

Do your knees knock at the thought of standing up front? This class will help you gain the confidence to proclaim the good news! In the course of the week, you’ll gain experience and boldness as you learn techniques for giving Scripture and prayer and preparing and delivering a sermonette. Bring: Strong’s Concordance, notebook, pencil, and eraser.

This class will be covering the fascinating topics that comprise the full spectrum of the miracle of human life. It will touch on the profession’s history (dating back to its record in ancient Scriptures), a woman’s anatomy and the stages of child development, prenatal care, labor and delivery of the newborn, and post-delivery mother and neonatal care. At the end of the class you will have learned hands-on practical skills that will allow you to gain a greater understanding and appreciation for this great profession and ministry. Come join this introductory midwifery class and learn the role of a midwife in partnering with God’s creation. For girls only, ages 14 and up.

Learn the basics of caring for a vehicle, from trouble shooting and maintenance to emergency procedures and pre-travel inspections. Class will cover belts, hoses, fluids, leaks, tires, brakes, and more. Bring: old clothes or coveralls.

Could you survive being lost or stranded in the wilderness? Learn techniques for surviving in the wild using simple equipment and nature’s provisions. You’ll learn about wilderness safety, wild edible plants, water procurement and purification, fire building, and shelter construction. Bring: sturdy footwear, a water bottle, and a notepad and pencil.

Learn the principles of natural healing to boost your own health and help those around you. Develop skills in performing a basic health assessment, hydrotherapy, and other home remedies. This inspiring class will help prepare you to be a medical missionary at home or abroad. Bring: Notebook, pen/pencil.
Week two: Outreach Classes

Calling all musicians! Here is a wonderful opportunity to get together, polish your skills, and use them for God’s glory. You’ll practice and perfect several sacred orchestral selections to share on Sabbath. Bring: Your portable instrument and a pencil. Prerequisites: Ability to read music and play an orchestra instrument.

Do you want to be a medical missionary, but don’t know how? Do you want to add to what you already know? In this class, we will demonstrate that you don’t have to have many years of training to help people with their health. While walking through God’s principles of health, we will learn how to be the hands and feet of Jesus to help make people whole.
Week two: Recreation Classes

Get started with the basics of quilling (not quilting!). You’ll learn how to use basic circles and shapes to make beautiful cards. This class will be relaxing, creative and fun. You’ll be able to take home some beautiful quilled cards. Class fee: $5

Do you love making art – and making people smile? In this creative, hands-on class, you’ll learn how to turn ordinary river rocks into beautiful, one-of-a-kind masterpieces! Paint encouraging messages, fun patterns, or whatever inspires you. By the end of the week, you’ll make a plan to share your rocks – with friends, family members, or even strangers who need a little joy. You never know how much just one rock could brighten someone’s day!

See American History come alive in this class! Each day we will look at a different skill from the early American colonial period and tell stories of how folks lived, dressed, worked, and thought. We will look at their day-to-day activities and learn a few new skills you can do at home! Activities may include: building a miniature ice box, using quill pens, making wax candles, and more.

Tasty, nutritious food is not only a powerful witness to God’s goodness—it makes every adventure more fun! Discover the tricks to making yummy muffins, mouth-watering cookies, delicious pies, and more. Participants get to eat the food they prepare! Bring: An apron. Class Fee: $10

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to take care of a hive of honeybees, and have your own supply of fresh honey? Would you like to learn about what goes on inside a hive, what equipment is needed for successful beekeeping, and how to extract your own honey? Even if you think bees are a little scary, this class will show you how easy beekeeping is, and just how gentle bees can be.
